The Pro One 18x20 Pentacore with its dense string pattern and thin 21 mm sets a new standard of control and feel that has appealed to generations of experienced serve-and-volley players with full strokes who demand ultimate control and mastery at net and flat-shot precision from the baseline.
Of course Donnay’s superior comfort and arm-safety is a given in the 18x20 model but it also mercifully lacks the redwood-tree cumbersomeness in swing of other dense-string-pattern players’ racquets such as the classic but elephantic Head Prestige which tips the scale at almost a full ounce heavier than the Pro One 18x20 Pentacore.
That means you don’t have to be at the 4.5-level to find success with the Pro One 18x20 or be a treetop server (like 6-foot-6-inch Prestige user Marin Clicic) to get blistering serves because of the hypersonic racquet-head speed of the lighter and more maneuverable Pro One.
And Prestige users will certainly love the Penta’s 10-point flexibility advantage that will allow them to achieve shot precision like the new Differential GP systems that calculate a driver’s position with an accuracy of just an inch. That means the ball doesn’t get a mind of its own, but goes where YOU aim it.
The Pro One 18x20, like its Pro One Pentacore 16x19 sibling that has an open string pattern has a superior plow-through element than other players’ racquets because of its lower stationary and swing weight and softer flex.
But the Penta 18x20 version has a slight control edge over the more open Pro One 16x19 version simply because the more cross hatches there are on a racquet and the closer they are together, the more control. But the tradeoff is a little less power and spin with the denser string pattern.
Donnay added a fifth foam-filled core (hence the name "Penta" which means "five" over its Quad (four cores) version that not only tweaks up the Pentacore’s arm protection over the Quad’s industry-leading comfort quotient but slightly tones down its stiffness and swing weight. While the Quad version remains the Mercedes Benz F015 of player racquets, the Penta is the Lamborghini Reventón.
