Why are Donnay racquets are superior to all other brands’ offerings?
All Donnay racquets have solid-cores throughout the frame that make the racquet more responsive in the player’s hand for helping him or her achieve their desired power, control and stability.
More important if you have arm issues (or afraid of developing one) the solid-core acts as a super dampener much like a car shock absorber prevents an extremely bouncy ride. It eliminates shock and vibration at ball contact, the cause of shoulder, elbow, forearm and wrist injuries.
What is the racquet’s role in today’s arm injury epidemic?
Conventional tennis racquets are hollow. This is how manufacturers have reduced weight from the solid wood era to make tennis racquets lighter and more accessible and maneuverable.
The Big Trade-Off from solid wood to hollow carbon materials has been the havoc on the hitting arm. Arm injuries have become an epidemic — today half of all players will suffer at least one bout with tennis elbow in their playing days, according to the sport’s governing body, the International Tennis Federation.
In solid wood rackets, vibration disappeared quickly, but the current stiffer, lighter and hollow conventional frames do a poor job of snuffing out the vibrations, so they transfer this shock to the arm that can stealthily sabotage the elbow, wrist, forearm and shoulder. To use another sport as an example: Think of the bone-shaking shock & vibration of the hollow baseball bat versus the relative dampening of the wooden version.
Donnay is the only tennis racquet manufacturer that produces an all-solid-core racquet line. The frames are filled throughout with a patented ultra-lightweight and high-tensile premium material called “Xenecore,” which is administered in powder form so it doesn’t add any significant weight to the frame. This “filling” goes from the butt cap, up the shaft, around the hoop and back down to the butt cap.
How does solid-core technology benefit performance?
• STABILITY AND CONTROL: the solid-core configuration expands the sweet spot and resists twisting on off-center hits.
• POWER: the solid-core construction allows the frame to snap back quicker on ball contact and catapult the ball deeper and with more speed into the opponent’s court. Solid-core technology allows Donnay to make even power-enhanced stiff racquets like its Super Lite 114 play “soft,” so they don’t compromise feel and directional control.
Why don’t other tennis manufacturers make solid-core racquets?
Donnay does not share its solid-core patent and Xenecore technology with competitors. So they wuld be forced to fill frames with a traditional substance such as polyurethane that is heavy and adds significant weight. That would be too cumbersome for most recreational players. There are a few polyurethane-filled racquets on the market but they weigh in excess of 12.5 ounces (strung). That means you almost have to be Roger Federer to easily swing them. There are some ATP pros who in fact have their racquets injected with polyurethane by their customizer because they have the strength, conditioning and skill to handle the extra weight.
How is the Xenecore injected into the frame?
A bed of ultra-lightweight Xenecore microcapsules are injected into the frame before it is baked. When it reaches baking temperature, the microcapsules expand and rise to completely fill the frame, similar to baking cookies in an oven. It’s a more expensive process but the payoffs are more power, control, stability and comfort.
Why does Donnay label its racquets “dual core,” “tri core, “quad core” and “pentacore?”
They refer to the number of cores in the frames. When Donnay was re-introduced in 2010, its original X-Series had a single core (or tubing) throughout the frame.
But as the company evolved it was determined that adding more cores improved the comfort and performance.
The first improvement was the dual-core line (two cores) with a second layer of Xenecore tubing on the inside of the hoop that further fortified the frame and eliminated energy loss on ball contact.
Then came the Tri Core (three cores) and Quad Core (four cores) lines. Tri Core improved performance while keeping comfort at its highest, while Quad Core provided an 8 percent faster ball speed and the highest stability of any racquet at the time.
The latest incarnation is Pentacore (five cores). This expensive and more intricate version created the ultimate “feels soft/hits hard” tennis racquet. Unlike the previous versions where cores ran continuously throughout the frame, the Pentacore application consists of a closed single core around the hoop as the first line of reducing shock & vibration transmission, followed by four separate cores that extend from the yoke to the butt cap that give the frames their potent power/ control/stability/comfort quotient.
